Original Article: Fatal shooting is Oakland’s 100th homicide this year

OAKLAND — A 52-year-old man was shot to death this afternoon in East Oakland, becoming the city’s 100th homicide victim of the year.

Enoch Reed, an Oakland resident, was shot about 3:48 p.m. in the 1800 block of 96th Avenue near Birch Street.

Residents reported hearing gunfire and then saw Reed, who had collapsed on the sidewalk.

Reed was taken to Highland Hospital, where he died at 4:33 p.m.

Sgt. Todd Crutchfield said that police don’t have a motive for the shooting and that no arrests have been made.

Last year at this time, there had been 115 homicides in the city.
