Original Article: Lanes clear after crash freezes westbound I-580 traffic in Livermore

LIVERMORE — A major-injury motorcycle crash that prompted the near-shutdown of westbound Interstate 580 traffic from San Joaquin County has been cleared, the California Highway Patrol said.

A collision between a motorcycle and a truck was reported about 7:45 a.m. near the Springtown Boulevard offramp, the CHP said. The rider was thrown off his motorcycle, prompting authorities to shut down several lanes for more than an hour to allow access for emergency vehicles and a medical helicopter.

As a result, traffic was narrowed to a single lane. Traffic backed up past Vasco Road into the Altamont Pass. The lanes were opened about 9 a.m.
