Mrs. Yeazell was born Aug. 10, 1910 in San Francisco. While earning her undergraduate and library degrees from the University of California at Berkeley, she worked as a San Francisco Public Library clerk to support her family after her father’s ship chandlery business failed in the Great Depression. After graduation, she worked in Standard Oil’s economic research bureau.
She married Edward Campbell Yeazell of San Francisco in 1943.
Mrs. Yeazell was widowed in 1953 and returned to library work at UC San Francisco the next year. She held a series of positions in the institution’s medical library and ultimately reached the post of university librarian in 1972. In that capacity, she oversaw a major expansion of the library and an early transition to computerized research tools.
After her retirement from the university in 1979, she became active in Hospice of Marin, first as a volunteer and later as a board member.
Mrs. Yeazell enjoyed respite at local state parks and beaches and, until recent years, could be found most Sunday afternoons hiking and picnicking with friends at Mount Tamalpais and Point Reyes.
She will be remembered for her sense of humor and dedication to family.
“She had a wonderful sense of the absurd and the ability to laugh at life and herself,”
said her son, Stephen Yeazell of Los Angeles.
In addition to him, she is survived by another son, Emmet Yeazell of Sausalito, and two grandchildren.
Plans for a memorial service are pending.
