SALINAS – Police in Salinas arrested an alleged gang member on Christmas Eve when a gun was seen in his car during a traffic stop.
Officers initiated the stop in the area of Las Casitas when a vehicle was seen being driven with just parking lights on at around 11:30 p.m., according to Salinas police.
The driver, 19-year-old Andrew Salcido, hit a parked car in the process of pulling over, police reported.
While still in the driver’s seat, Salcido, a suspected gang member, allegedly reached back to get his identification and revealed the grip of a semi automatic pistol from under his right leg.
The gun was later found to be stolen, according to police records.
Salcido was taken into custody without further incident, according to police, and was booked into Monterey County jail.
